Exploring our inner territory

And why a map is helpful

At first, it can seem puzzling or even annoying when you are told you have parts. After the first astonishment, you might actually very well recognize aspects of yourself that are distincts. There you go: your parts. (CG Jung discovered this a long time ago, you might have heard about the Shadow).

In this inner systemic model, IFS provides a map to navigate our inner territory and meet our parts or sub personalities.

Why would we need a map to do that ? Well, it's like going to a foreign country and trying to get to know the people, their language and their habits. A translator can be handy. Same thing here.

We almost exclusively function in external focus, in a Doing and Performing world, where there is very little to no time and space to go inside and become familiar with our thoughts, emotions and impulses. Thus, Self knowledge is scarce, and this has huge consequences on our lives, our health and the way we treat each other and we treat Nature.
